Bring the past to the present and help shape future insights.

Want to work beyond the pages of textbooks and the walls of a classroom? Build a foundation in historical interpretation through App State’s Bachelor of Science (BS) in History - Applied and Public History degree program.

By learning to present historical information in a way that inspires public interest, you will help others understand and appreciate the people, places and events that have made an impact over time. The program’s courses build an understanding of the collection, preservation and presentation of historical information.

Practitioners of Public History interpret history for audiences by managing museums, curating exhibits, designing digital histories and conducting archival research, aiming to not only share historical information with diverse audiences but to critically examine how history is presented.

Our faculty are experienced and passionate historians who are dedicated to sharing their deep understanding of history. Regardless of which geographic, periodic or thematic area of history piques your interest, the Applied and Public History program can build upon your understanding of our past and its implications for our future.
