“Being a journalism major at App State meant constantly immersing myself in news, writing, and storytelling. I appreciated the small class sizes, specialized feedback from professors and meaningful partnerships between the Department of Communication and the university’s many student media outlets. Thanks to the hands-on experiences I had as a pupil and student journalist at The Appalachian, I am now a young professional in news. After being editor-in-chief at the paper and graduating, I landed an internship in audience journalism and haven’t looked back.”

    — Emily Broyles, a 2022 graduate of App State’s Digital Journalism program
