See the world and explore its past through art.

Art serves as an entryway to understanding how the world works and what continues to shape it. In App State’s Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Art and Visual Culture - Art History degree program, you’ll examine cultural expression as well as the history of visual artistry to prepare for career paths in museum or gallery curation or archiving, art direction and much more.

Students of Art History and Visual Culture investigate the production, form and reception of images and objects — past and present — from a multicultural perspective. In this program, you’ll learn about the economic, social and political contexts necessary for understanding artistic trends.

App State offers intensive study trips to museums and artist studios in Washington, D.C., and New York City, as well as sites in Europe, Africa and Mexico so that you can experience firsthand some of the most important historical and contemporary works of art.
