Explore the art of movement.

Engage in creative collaboration and varied movement practices to cultivate your artistic skills and processes as a Dance major at App State. Through the university’s Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Dance Studies degree program, you will grow not only as a performer but also as an artist, thinker, maker and viewer of the dance artform.

As a student, you will experience an integrative approach to dance that will help you make connections among disciplines and ultimately experience dance on a deeper, multidimensional level. The opportunities in our program are many and varied, including exemplary experiences in performance and choreography.

The program’s vibrant and diverse faculty members share a student-centered, holistic approach to teaching dance that will allow you to develop awareness and integration of body, mind and spirit.

With a degree in Dance Studies, you can pursue careers in choreography, criticism, teaching, performance, music theater and more.

    “Through embodied learning practices in Dance Studies, I guide students to expand and integrate their awareness, transcend barriers, cultivate community, generate new understandings and create innovative solutions.”

    Daughtridge is the 2023 recipient of the Appalachian State University Board of Governors Excellence in Teaching Award and serves as co-director of the App State study abroad program Rhythm and Revolution: Exploring Cuba.
