Dive deep into one of the most distinctive cultural regions in the United States with App State’s Graduate Certificate in Appalachian Studies.
The Southern Appalachians are teeming with history, music, religion and biodiversity, just to name a few areas you will be studying. With faculty who have expertise in all of these areas, App State can provide you with the knowledge and experiences that will enable you to understand this unique region.
You will immerse yourself in the area’s social systems, history, culture, religions and biology, so that you can enhance your ability to work in a professional and culturally informed way in addressing local and regional issues. Additionally, you’ll gain research expertise in studying the Appalachian region and its communities.
And as an Appalachian Studies student, you will have access to the College of Arts and Sciences’ Center for Appalachian Studies, a nationally recognized hub for all things Appalachian. The center works to illuminate and sustain the region's rich history, cultures, communities and ecology.
